  • Some rooms, especially standard doubles, can be on the smaller side compared to kings.
  • Power outages are rare but can affect entire blocks, as experienced by some guests.
  • Reservations and direct communication are best handled via the inn’s local phone number rather than third-party services.

About this property

Welcome to Historic Inns of Annapolis

Historic Inns of Annapolis consists of three distinct inns housed within historic buildings dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Each inn offers elegant rooms furnished with period-style decor, providing a sense of the past alongside modern comforts. On-site amenities include an English-style pub and a gym, catering to a variety of guest needs. The property is also recognized as LGBTQ+ friendly, welcoming diverse travelers.

Located in the heart of Annapolis, these inns provide a convenient base for exploring the city’s historic district. Situated across from the Maryland State House and less than a quarter-mile from the U.S. Naval Academy Museum, guests benefit from easy access to cultural landmarks and local attractions. Visitors appreciate the proximity to restaurants, shops, and other points of interest, such as the William Paca House & Garden and the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum.

Guests stay in one of the three inns, which are located in close but separate buildings; parking is limited and valet service is strongly advised. Reviews reflect a positive experience overall with comfortable rooms and helpful staff, though some mention the need to manage luggage between inns and occasional operational issues like power outages. Check-in is at the Governor Calvert Inn, one of the accessible locations within the complex.

The Historic Inns of Annapolis suit visitors looking for a historic and centrally located stay with traditional styling. It appeals to history enthusiasts and those attending events or exploring downtown Annapolis. With a 4.6 rating based on nearly 1,000 reviews, the property offers a well-regarded option amid other nearby hotels, combining character with practical amenities.

The inns are located steps from the Annapolis State House. Be aware that the three buildings are in different locations. That said, all three inns offer an ideal location if you wish to stay in Annapolis’s lovely historic district. Our room in the Robert Johnson building was spacious, quiet, comfortable and well air-conditioned (the latter is a must in the hot months.) Unfortunately, a power outage which hit several blocks in Annapolis during our stay, knocked out power to our room. We were moved to the nearby Maryland Inn (nice on-site bar) to finish our stay. Harrison, who helped with our luggage, took us to our Robert Johnson room and provided valet service, did an outstanding job. Brian, who moved us to the Maryland Inn after the afore-mentioned power outage, was also outstanding. One star off for the hotel’s decision not to disclose added fees on the website. Valet parking is $44/night. There is an “historic maintenance” fee of $30. Valet parking is pretty much a must because street parking is scarce and there doesn’t appear to be a self-parking option for guests. That’s fine, but it should be disclosed on the website.

There are 3 inns that they can put you in. I was not in the inn where you check in. Get the valet!!! In this case the valet was able to drive me to the other inn where I was staying and help me with my bags. They give you the option to walk your bags to the other inn bc it is not that far. Do not do that if you get the valet service. It would be very inconvenient dragging luggage to different buildings on foot. My Inn was the Maryland Inn. My room was nice. The air conditioning was a window unit and it was a heat wave but it was good enough for my experience. It never got chilly in the room though. There are no employees at this building outside of housekeeping. If you need anything you need to call the front desk where you checked in. I was not in need of anything during my stay. I checked out by calling the front desk to avoid a trip over there and the valet brought my car to my Inn. All worked well. If you want to walk around after check out there is no storage of bags at the Maryland Inn. But I called the valet and stored them in my car. The valet service lasts until 2 pm after you check out. I enjoyed the experience because the room was charming and the valet service helped with the bags and getting over to my Inn.

I stayed one night at the Historic Inns of Annapolis (Governor Calvert House) for a quick leisure getaway, and the experience exceeded expectations. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of downtown Annapolis & Main Street, steps from the State House and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the waterfront. The room (2 Double/2 Full) was comfortable, clean, and full of character. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful, and check-in was smooth and efficient. Highly recommend this property if you're looking for a historic and convenient base to explore Annapolis. I’d definitely return!

What a beautiful inn! Located right in the center of everything with plenty of excellent dining choices. Room was comfortable but a tad small as I had ordered a standard double. My friend had a king which was superb. We used valet service at the Governor Calvert Inn which is also where you check in. I would definitely stay here again. Such a wonderful stay!

First, when you contact these hotels (3) please know that if you call an 800 number, it is likely Expedia. If you use the 410 number, you can get the actual hotel staff. I suggest you use the 410 number. Rooms are great, location also, staff good- shoutout to Connor for being exceptional.

I travel to Annapolis several times a year and always have a positive experience with the Historic Inns, no matter which of the three properties I stay at. The location can't be beat, the accommodations are roomy and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Fantastic all around.

There are three hotels to choose from. We are staying in the Robert Johnson house. We love the room setup and history. The staff has been amazing and rooms perfect. You will have to valet if you stay here as there is limited parking around each one of the hotel. Highly recommend staying here. It is close to eveything in downtown Annapolis.
